I should first start off this post by saying I'm very much a combination skin girl. My t-zone gets so oily throughout the day you could cook an egg on it, gross I know, but it's the reality. The rest of my face including my cheeks stays particularly normal, so making a foundation choice is always a difficult one for me. The choice also depends the ever changing Melbourne weather and whether I want to go natural with sheer coverage, or need a heavier coverage on those bad skin days.
I've put together some of my favourite foundations, this list is ever changing, so I'm sure you will be seeing more of these posts in the future. Oh and by the way, you'll notice by the photos I always lose the lids of my foundations, anyone else?
Make Up Forever HD Foundation (Shade 120) - This is the holy grail of all foundations. I think the moment most of us beauty lovers heard that this product is what gave Kim Kardashian her flawless complexion (along with a hoard of make up artists) we all ran out to grab it. I remember vividly the millions of YouTube videos raving about this product and I instantly fell in love. Unfortunately, this foundation is not available in Australia so once again I use my handy dandy forwarding address to get this magic potion into my hands. It looks fantastic on the skin and is more of a medium to heavy coverage, great for those nights out (I must amid most of my nights out consist of a cup of tea vs. a cocktail). It photographs beautifully, but I must admit if you have a oily t-zone, it does wear off throughout the day, it's not 100% a long wearing.
Nars Sheer Glow (Punjab) - Another foundation which is much loved by fellow beauty bloggers. I was weary of this product only because it had the word 'glow' in it and for anyone with combination or oily skin the word glow and dewy are two very scary terms. However, when I tried this product, it's actually more of a satin finish than a glowy finish. It's one my favourites to wear at the moment in the Melbourne Autumn/Winter, it goes on smoothly and I apply this with a beauty blender. What I love about this product is it blends into the skin naturally, it also makes a great base for the rest of the make up. Once again, it doesn't last all day on my skin, but the reality is no foundation lasts on day on me for a full 8 hours no matter the claims.
L'Oreal True Match Foundation ( Shade N3) - A great drug store product, very similar to Make Up Forever HD however there is one thing that I don't like about it. I don't know if it's me but it's very hard to blend into the skin. I feel like I have to do slightly more work and have to utilise two tools the wonderful Real Techniques foundation brush and the Beauty Blender. However, once the foundation is on, it is beautiful on the skin.
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12- Hour Full Coverage Foundation (Light -Medium Sand) - Ah, what can I say about this product. It feels like silk going onto the skin. It is very full coverage, so it's great for those days when your skin needs a little bit more coverage than usual. It blends wonderfully and doesn't take much work. Really recommend this product for us combo/oily skinned girls. It lasts the longest out of all the products and photographs wonderfully.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Airbrush Foundation - This is a great product for those light coverage days. I was worried about ever utilising a powder because I was worried of the mixture of oil and powder turning into a cakey mess. However, this product feels like heaven on the skin as if you're not wearing anything. The product is also buildable and leaves a lovely sheen on your skin to makes your skin feel awake on those dull days.
Let me know what your favourite foundation is. Thank you for reading.
